The Harry Colt Project

The Objective of The Harry Colt Project

The goal of The Harry Colt Project is to capture and curate all available information regarding Harry Colt’s design work. We aim to create a catalogue of this information for the preservation of his legacy, life and work. We also wish to obtain a complete, documented and verified collection of his design portfolio. By collectively sharing the story of Harry Colt’s life and work, we hope to preserve his legacy in the game of golf.

The Harry Colt Society

Foundations are being laid to launch The Harry Colt Society. With more news due throughout 2023, please email: harrycolt@evalu18.com to register your interest for further updates.

Why Harry Colt?

In the history of the game of golf, few men had such a profound influence and effect. Responsible for such courses as St George’s Hill, Sunningdale, Swinley Forest, St Andrews Eden and Royal Portrush, his portfolio is equal to or greater than virtually all of his contemporaries. Despite this, few have embarked on this substantial project. Golf course architects such as Old Tom Morris, Alister MacKenzie, Tom Simpson and James Braid have loyal adherents and their legacy has been documented and preserved for further generations. The time is now for Harry Colt.

The Harry Colt Project – Why Now?

Peter Pugh wrote the books Creating Classics and Masters of Design. Additionally, Fred Hawtree wrote the biography, Colt & Co. Whilst commendable, these works are not complete. We aim to crowdsource the remaining outstanding information. We also await eagerly the new biography written by Adam Lawerence.
